Thanks to all who helped prepare the 47 blankets (knitted and crocheted) that Calvary United Methodist sent to children in Namibia, Africa this past summer.

The initial project, collecting squares for blankets, has proven too difficult to continue logistically - squares are not uniformly square, some had to be blocked, and sewing them together was very time-consuming. We are no longer accepting squares, but if you want to continue to knit them, you can send your own squares to: Knit-a-Square, Soweto Comfort Club, Private Bag X900, Bryanston 2021, South Africa. It is strongly suggested that you go to www.knit-a-square.com to learn about all the parameters involved in preparing and mailing squares to the women in this organization who will connect squares into blankets for the needy children in sub-Saharan Africa (where temperatures do get cold).

If you like to keep a project going and want to contribute whole, completed blankets, we will send them to places of need. As of mid-November 2009, we are sending 10 blankets to missionaries in Khazicstan.

We also continue to collect children's sweaters for the Guideposts Magazine Knit-for-Kids project. These sweaters are now distributed throughout the globe by World Vision, who has partnered with Guideposts for the distribution phase of the project. You can get a pattern or learn more about this project at www.knitforkids.org.
